FREDERICKTOWN: Donald C. Travis, age 87, passed away on June 22, 2024 surrounded by many loving members of his large family.

Known as “Foxy,” Donald was always quick to conjure laughter with his sharp wit and trickster nature. Born on August 30, 1936 in Elba, Ohio to parents Jesse and Sara (Hupp) Travis, Donald was one of five children. After school, he worked as a custodian for Lexington Junior High School until he retired in 1982. Unable to sit still, he took a position at Lilly Industries, where he worked until 2001.

Donald cared deeply for his family, never missing an opportunity to gather with them and enjoy laughter and good company. A homebody, he most enjoyed the comfort of his home when filled with those he loved most. He could often be found outside at the grill, mowing the lawn, tending to the garden, and playing a game of horseshoes. When not outside, he loved retreating to the comfort of his recliner and watching his favorite westerns on television, namely “Gunsmoke.” A devout fan of Cleveland Browns football, he shared many thrilling days cheering on his favorite players alongside his family who shared his passion.
He is held in dear memory by many who survive him, including wife of twenty years Carolyn Travis; son Donald (Becky) Travis of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; daughter Dianna Lilly of Mt. Gilead; daughter Wendy (Jeff) Fairchild of Lexington; daughter Amy (Denny) Pfahler of Lexington; stepson Robert (Tara) Hupp of Whitesburg, Kentucky; stepdaughter Terri Brown of Katy, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Mama.

Donald was preceded in death by his first wife Beverly Travis; grandson Jesse Travis; parents Jesse and Sara; brothers Harley, Hobert, and Ray Travis; sister Peg Smith; stepdaughter Tina Brown; and son-in-law Dale Lilly.

Donald’s family invites loved ones to gather at Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel on Thursday, June 27 from 11am to 1pm for calling hours with a funeral service at 1pm before burial in Shauck Cemetery.
