William H. ”Billy” Satterfield, 86, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at Highland Lake Center, Lakeland, Florida, where he had made his home for the past 10 years.
Billy was born in Crestline on Dec. 27, 1929, the only child of the late Luther and Freda (Holcker) Satterfield.
Billy was the apple of his parent’s eyes and was often with them wherever they went. Billy attended Fairway School in Bucyrus and worked at Waycraft Industries, also in Bucyrus. Billy loved to be in crowds. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Crestline High School Football program and was present for all their games, home and away. Coach John DiPietro made sure that Billy rode with him to all their games.
Billy had always wanted to be in Times Square in New York City on New Year’s Eve to watch the ball drop at midnight, but none of his friends were brave enough to take him there! So, Billy contented himself with trips to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City (three times) and the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California.
He visited Las Vegas, Nevada, Frankenmuth, Michigan, the Great Smokey Mountains, Hershey, Pennsylvania, Sarasota, Florida, Chicago, Illinois. Atlanta, Georgia, Atlantic City, New Jersey, New Orleans, Louisianna and Dollywood in Tennessee, along with numerous other places.
Even after the passing of his parents, Billy was never alone, having the support of his friend Gladys Burkhart. He was blessed to have among his best friends Glen Reynolds, Sonny Moyer, Christine Fisher, the children of Gladys Watts, Elizabeth and Mike Fairfax, and Coach John DiPietro.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 223 W. Main St., Crestline. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline, with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will be next to his parents.
Memorial contributions in Billy’s name may be made to Waycraft Industries, Bucyrus, in care of the funeral home.
