Esther M. Russell, 93, Galion, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at Signature Healthcare in Galion, after a brief illness.
Esther was born in Mansfield on Feb. 20, 1923 to the late Albert S. and Marie (Hasenzahl) Hoffman.
Esther was a member of the Galion First Church of the Nazarene, Galion and worked at Westinghouse, Mansfield and the Ramada Inn as a housekeeper. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Everyone loved her homemade butterscotch pie. Esther also enjoyed knitting, her favorite card game was “Hand & Foot,” and she enjoyed dice games, although she was a sore loser, and liked to play Euchre, but wanted to win.
While Esther still drove she enjoyed visiting her family. She loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Foreman, of Galion and her son, Steven Russell, of Bucyrus, her sister Donna Wymers, of Greenwich and her brother Bill (Avis) Hoffman, of Mansfield, four grandchildren, Thomas Jr. and Julie Foreman, Kathy and Mark Jennings, Bob and Heidi Foreman, Gregory Foreman and family, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Allan Russell, son-in-law, Thomas Foreman, Sr., Eileen Maines, Margaret Dolce, Donald Hoffman, Jim Hoffman, Duane Hoffman, Raymond Hoffman, Merle Hoffman, Glenn Hoffman, Ed Hoffman, Albert Hoffman, infant sister Carol Hoffman and infant brother Richard Hoffman.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Rick McCartney officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
