FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — No one was hurt, but a Franklin Township home was destroyed by a fire on Monday afternoon.
Several agencies responded to a house fire at 2525 Ohio 96, just outside Olivesburg. Steve Dinsmore, Chief of the Savannah Volunteer Fire Department, said upon arrival, heavy smoke was coming from the second floor windows of the two-story home, with flames bursting from the west side of the house.
The high winds caused the fire to spread throughout the house.
Agencies from a multi-county region responded to the incident.
“We had joint operations from Ashland and Richland counties to help try to bring this fire under control,” he said.
The resident was outside of the home when the agencies arrived, Dinsmore said. The Red Cross was called to help assist the resident.
The damage was extensive. Within about 45 minutes of the agencies’ arrival, there was a structural collapse, he said.
The cause is unknown at this time.
