SHELBY — Third Street Family Health Services has opened a new OB/GYN facility in Shelby.
The facility is located at 199 W. Main Street on the second floor of OhioHealth Shelby Hospital. Providers include Navita Modi, M.D. and Lavonne Downing RNC, MSN, WHNP-BC.
Modi, who has been in practice for over 10 years, is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG). She is board certified (Diplomat of American Board of OBGYN), and she’s also taken certified trainings to perform minimally invasive surgeries using the most current technology in the surgical arena, da Vinci.
Modi has published various research papers during her residency and has received recognition awards for her outstanding performances.
Her interests include teaching, research in women’s healthcare, minimally invasive surgeries and a strong commitment to patient education.
When not in the office or at the hospital, Modi enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, cooking, traveling and dancing.
Downing is a 1988 graduate of Plymouth High School. She obtained her associate degree in nursing from North Central State College. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing degree from Ashland University and her master’s degree, as well as her nurse practitioner training, from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
For 16 years, she worked as the charge nurse in maternity services at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital, where she also functioned as the hospital’s perinatal bereavement coordinator.
Downing attributes her interest in women’s healthcare to her grandmother, who was one of the first formally trained midwives in the United States.
She provides comprehensive, compassionate care for female patients from the onset of puberty through menopause focusing on health promotion and disease prevention. Her special interests include patient education, pregnancy and adolescent health.
