SHELBY — OhioHealth Shelby patients now have access to state-of-the-art CT imaging at the West Main Street hospital.
The Shelby campus installed a new Computed Tomography (CT) unit in February. It produces high-quality images, making it easy for radiologists to read the scans.
The GE Revolution Ascend 128-slice CT scanner produces images in half the time as its replacement. The scanner is also equipped with artificial intelligence to help clarify images and optimize a patient’s radiation dose.
According to GE HealthCare, the CT scanner also has abilities to help patient positioning, meaning the visitor and radiology technologists can save time on getting the patient properly centered for an accurate scan reading.
“We understand that our customers are challenged with increased CT procedure volume, and we know that improving CT department workflow and productivity is a top priority,” said Sonia Sahney, GE HealthCare chief marketing officer for molecular imaging and computed tomography.
“That’s why we’ve developed a breakthrough innovation in CT, streamlining the entire CT process with AI and machine learning solutions that facilitate the technologist’s workflow from the time they receive an order to when they send a patient’s images for reporting.”
According to OhioHealth Mansfield’s imaging department, both the Shelby and Mansfield hospitals each have one GE Revolution Ascend CT scanner. Both hospitals have other scanners as well.
Hilary Russell, manager of Imaging Services at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital, said the new technology is the same a patient might see in bigger cities.
“The new CT scanner allows us to provide high-quality CT imaging utilizing the same state-of-the-art technology larger hospitals have available, but in the more intimate setting of Shelby Hospital,” Russell said.
CT scans can be used to pinpoint the location of tumors, help diagnose muscle and bone disorders and detect other diseases.
