MANSFIELD, Ohio — The 90-year-old, 60,000-square foot Renaissance Theatre is completing a facelift, or a ceiling lift in this case.

Scaffolding littered the theater floor as painters continued the detailed work of painting the ceiling of the local landmark this week.

“The amount of effort to paint ceiling is impressive, along with the cost,” said Rand Smith, chairman of the board at The Renaissance Theatre. “Many thanks to the efforts of the staff, volunteers, and board who obtained grants and donations to insure this portion of the project is paid for.”

Smith said there are not enough funds to paint the entire ceiling, but that hasn’t slowed the momentum of the project.

“As we raise more money we will paint more of the theater and work on the silk walls,” he said. “We want to thank all who attend and support the fabulous Renaissance Theatre.”

Smith noted that work on the theatre is being completed by local artisans.

“I think the last time we had scaffolding in The Ren was over 30 years ago,” he said.
