Dora Welker

Dora Leona Welker, age 96 of Shelby died Monday morning, Jan. 18, 2016, at her home. Born June 22, 1919 in Shelby to Samuel James & Lillie (Gutschall) Ebersole, she has been a Shelby resident all of her life.

During WWII Dora was employed with Shelby Spring Hinge but as a homemaker her life’s work was her family.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting, quilting and gardening. Dora made many quilts which were donated to local nursing homes. She loved to spend time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Lee (Peg) Welker of Plymouth; one daughter, Debbie Welker of Shelby; three grandchildren, Glenn (Deb) Welker, Kathy (Mike) McQuate and Heather (Drew) Schwamburger; eight great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Pearl Gouge and Thelma Phillips.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Herbert Martin Welker; an infant son, Glen Welker; three sisters, Mabel Fagan, Elsie Marshall and Dorothy Swisher; two brothers, Harley and Charley Ebersole and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday Jan. 21, 2016 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. Pastor Walter Keib will officiate with internment held in Greenlawn Cemetery, Plymouth. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial expressions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Shelby or to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
