Shirley Lunsford

Shirley Lunsford, 76, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Hospice House in Ashland, Ohio, after a 5-year battle with cancer.

She was born June 27, 1939, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Fred and Freda (Cline) Dinger.

Shirley graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1957 and was the office manager at Big Bear for a number of years before becoming a full-time homemaker. Her daughter and grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Mam,” were treasured for their unique personalities and made to feel special. Mam’s house was the place to be for love and fun times.

Shirley was a busy woman outside her home and coordinated many local Bingo functions. She enjoyed being on her computer and keeping up with the latest advances in technology. Shirley loved communicating with her many friends online, keeping them ever present in her heart and mind. She enjoyed the quiet and peacefulness of sitting on her porch reading or coloring. Playing cards was another favorite activity.

She is survived by a daughter, Wendy (Ed) Shambaugh; two grandchildren, Michael (Candace) Lybarger and Sara Lybarger (Anthony Dominguez); three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Beauford, Arbor Lybarger and Asher Lybarger; sister, Jean Whitt; numerous nieces and nephews; and four sisters-in-law, Selma Furby, Dolores Meyer, Kathryn Dormier and Mary Lunsford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul “Turtle” Lunsford on Sept. 11, 2010; a brother, Fred Dinger; and two special friends, Irene McNutt and Carol Voschel.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Mark Meyer, Sr., will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio, 44805.
