MANSFIELD, Ohio — UPDATED 10:15 a.m. — According to Captain Shari Robertson, police are still investigating the shooting of Jabril Bond, 20, who was shot five times while he was a passenger in a white SUV Saturday.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. at 514 Johns Avenue. Witness Hope Clair said she heard “at least two to three shots” and that when she looked out her window, she watched a white SUV and maroon Dodge Durango speed away.

Bond was transported to OhioHealth MedCentral’s emergency room, where he was treated.

“He said he was texting when he heard shots and he didn’t even know he was hit right away,” said Robertson Monday morning. “He’s saying he doesn’t know why he was shot.”

Robertson said police are still investigating a motive.

Both vehicles, the white SUV and the maroon Dodge Durango were located over the weekend. Robertson said police are working on getting search warrants.

“We’re looking for the driver of the white SUV,” said Robertson. According to the police’s incident report, Shameek Price drove the white SUV and has an address listed at Burkwood Road in Mansfield.

Robertson, who worked as a Mansfield Police Department Community Patrol Officer for seven years in the North Lake Park area said Bond’s name sounds familiar, but is unsure of his ties with gang affiliations.
