MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mansfield adds yet another beauty business to its downtown landscape with the addition of Salon Vivace.

Located at the corner of 4th Street and Walnut Street, the downtown storefront is the third location for Salon Vivace since it first opened in 2009. Owner Hillary Kastran said she jumped at the chance to be downtown.

“The opportunity presented itself and everything fell into place,” Kastran said. “For me personally and as an owner, I love the character downtown has and I love seeing local small businesses supporting each other. Plus the hustle and bustle, I’m a city girl and I love it.”

Since the beginning of her career, Kastran knew she wanted to have her own salon someday. The first Salon Vivace first opened seven years ago in Ontario, then four years later the salon downsized to a location on Lexington Avenue. Kastran and her crew have been at their downtown Mansfield location since Nov. 1.

“We took a step back to take a few steps forward,” she said. “We’ve been building up business and building up staff, and it’s been wonderful.”

Kastran had some heavy renovating to do when she first acquired the space at 18 W. 4th St. in August; it started out as a gym. After lowering the ceilings, adding and removing walls and replacing the floors, Salon Vivace is now equipped to offer all hair services including cuts and colors, plus facials and all nail services.

Services

“At first I was like absolutely not, I’m not moving again, but my girls started bringing to me that they wanted to expand their services,” Kastran said. “I thought, well, I’ve always loved downtown and being right in the mix of the rebuilding of downtown Mansfield, and I wanted to be a part of that.”

Salon Vivace currently employs seven stylists, both full- and part-time. Kastran said the salon boasts a mix of veteran stylists as well as those new to the business.

Services at Salon Vivace are available by appointment and by walk-in. Hours are Monday through Saturday; Monday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kastran said as an established salon she was able to carry over most of her client base, but the new downtown location has invited many more visitors thanks to foot traffic.

“Because we’re still new, people just want to come in and check us out,” she said. “We have had people come look around and we’ve also had a couple new clients.”

Renovation

In the future, Kastran hopes to grow her staff as Salon Vivace becomes even more established. She said she feels blessed to be a part of helping people realize their worth.

“A haircut and color can definitely make you feel great about yourself but along with that, the relationships that are formed are so much more,” Kastran said. “I want people to see that I have an unbelievably talented team that cares more about people than I can ever hope for.

“I also want to get involved in the community and do whatever we can do to continue the building up of downtown.”
