COLUMBUS – State Sen. Larry Obhof (R-Medina) this week recognized Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Stoffer, whose quick response helped save the life of a 1-year-old child.
“As many of us travel Ohio’s roadways this holiday season, we should take comfort in knowing that the brave men and women of our Ohio Highway Patrol are ready to respond in an emergency,” said Obhof.
Trooper Stoffer was responding to a report of an erratic driver on U.S. Route 42 when he heard a call for help from the driver of the vehicle. The driver’s baby daughter had stopped breathing and was unresponsive. Without hesitation, Stoffer began chest compressions until the baby was able breathe on her own. After Stoffer performed CPR, EMS transported the girl to Mansfield Med-Central Hospital, where she was flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
“Ohio’s Highway Patrol has some of the best-trained and most dedicated public servants in the country,” Obhof said. “Trooper Stoffer’s heroic actions are a testament to that.”
During the Senate’s floor session Wednesday, Senator Obhof and Highway Patrol Superintendent Colonel Paul Pride presented Trooper Stoffer with a commendation recognizing his actions.
