Marcia “Mardy” Bard of Howard was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday afternoon, November 4, 2013 from Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was 74.

Born October 12, 1939 in Mansfield, Mardy was the daughter of the late Edgar and Wilma Racer and was graduated from Union High School in 1957.

Growing up in the Shenandoah area, she lived less than a mile from the young man she would marry. Their courting days began with a funny event when Mardy’s sister assumed that young Jack was calling on her. Too polite to set her straight, Jack took her out once, but quickly made his intentions for Mardy clear. Together ever since, they were wed on September 14, 1957, and spent 56 wonderful years devoted to one another.

Mardy kept the books for her husband’s trucking business. Her children grown, Mardy went back to school attending NCTC to obtain her Associate’s Degree in Computer Science. She worked many years for the Man Power Temp Agency using her computer skills at various area businesses.

She was a long-time attendee of Adario United Methodist Church where she served the congregation as organist and pianist. She loved to direct, and was quite talented not only with sheet music but also could play a song by ear, given only a verse or a few notes. Mardy loved playing and singing the old hymns. More recently she attended Covenant Christian Church of God.

Competitive, Mardy loved cards, especially euchre, was an excellent bowler, and enjoyed creating stained glass art. Politics were always a special interest to Mardy, who considered herself an extreme conservative. She was involved in the Knox Co 912 project and often tuned in to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

A loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Mardy loved the Lord with all her heart and prayed for her children and grandchildren daily. Mardy made friends everywhere she went and will be remembered for her beautiful bright smile.

She is survived by her husband Jack Edward Bard of Howard, two daughters and sons-in-law Tierany (Frank) Remen of Howard, Tonja (Ron) Winters of Ontario, eight grandchildren Myles, Breanna, Chelsie, Selena (Kyle), Dakota, Brandon (Megan), Amber and Cory; five great grandchildren Colton, Kyri, Kaden, Brodey and Kyliee; a sister Rebecca McPherson of FL, sister-in-law Dee Racer of AR, daughter-in-law Dee Jones, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sons Timothy H. Bard in 1987, and Jack A. Bard in 2012, a sister Mari Lynn Smith and a brother Eddie Dean Racer.

Friends may call Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 2-5 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held Monday at 11 am. Pastor Douglas Magers will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
