MANSFIELD, Ohio—New promoters are bringing racing action back to the Mansfield Motorsport Speedway this summer.

The news was announced in a Facebook post on Sandusky Speedway’s timeline. The post states: “K & B Promotions – parent company of Sandusky Speedway, The MSA Supermodifieds, The Main Event Racing Series, the Buckeye Super Sprints and Sandusky Speedway Karting Series has entered into a lease agreement to operate Mansfield Speedway.

According to K & B Promotions General Manager Doug Dock the track will operate approximately six events throughout the 2015 racing season. The schedule is to be released within the next 24 – 48 hours with the first event tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2015 featuring the MSA Supermodifieds, Modifieds and Front Wheel Drive cars. The Main Event Racing Series is tentatively slated for two races as well as the Sprints seeing some track time this season!”

Dock confirmed that K & B Promotions finalized a lease agreement with owner Grant Milliron, president of Milliron Industries. Milliron purchased the former Mansfield Motorsport Speedway at sheriff’s sale in 2013.

“We are extremely happy to bring racing back to Mansfield and the community at a facility that is one of the nicest and well-built in the business of short track racing,” said Dock.

“The facility is in exceptionally great condition and very close to race ready. What we are going to begin doing in the next couple days is get the electric turned on and checked, the water turned on, and of course, checked, said Dock.

“We need to make some small repairs to some wiring going from the track to the tower, which runs the PA system, scoreboard, caution lights and transponder (scoring loop). The biggest repair area is the track itself. It will take a couple of weeks to get the surface to the point that it can be raced on.”

Preparations for the first event will begin in the next few days. And as stated in the initial Facebook post, the tentative schedule was released a few hours later.

The tentative schedule is as follows:

Sunday, June 21 MSA Supermodifieds, Modifieds and Front Wheel Drives

Sunday, July 5 Modifieds, Front Wheel Drives and other division TBA.

Saturday, Aug. 1 Main Event Racing Series, Modifieds and Front Wheel Drives.

Mansfield Motorsport Speedway began in the spring of 1959 with a dirt course. Upgrades were made to the facility over the years, and the 1970 season brought the first annual Johnny Appleseed Classic.

In the spring of 1972 the track opened for the season with new steel bleachers capable of seating 5,000 race fans and a new press box. The track also grew from a three-eighths mile to a half-mile track.
