SHELBY – The Shelby Area Democratic Club recently met for the organization’s annual meeting, as required by the Ohio Revised Code and by the group’s constitution.
Members unanimously re-elected president Garland Gates of Shelby, vice president Ted Clabaugh of Shelby, secretary Rita Scheurer of Madison Township, and treasurer Vickie Eichof of Springfield Township. All officers will serve a one-year term. Richland Co. Democratic Party chairman Joe Mudra presided over their installation.
“It is indeed an honor to be entrusted with responsibility for particular service,” Chairman Mudra advised the officers. “The members of this club have indicated their trust in you to serve faithfully and fairly and with integrity as their leaders.”
During the business meeting, members reviewed the club’s 2017 activities. Highlights included:
• State Rep. David Leland of Columbus delivered the keynote address at May’s Truman-Kennedy Society Breakfast. Ticket sales in 2017 broke previous records for this annual event.
• In July, members in cooperation with USW Local 3057 conducted a highly successful food drive at Cornell’s IGA to benefit the local FISH Food Pantry.
• Many members attended a festive September reception and fundraiser on Grand Boulevard for U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.
• For the fall General Election campaign, the club provided hundreds of dollars of direct and indirect support for local candidates. Every candidate listed on the slate card mailed throughout northern and northwestern Richland County was elected or reelected.
Club president Gates challenged members to do extra in 2018. “The ‘Blue Wave’ won’t happen unless we make it happen,” he noted.
The next meeting of the Shelby Area Democratic Club is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 15. It will take place at 7 p.m. in the Sutter Roush Room, 23 East Main Street.
