Ruth Hammonds, age 73, resident of Shelby, died Friday May 29, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 7, 1941 to Thomas Joseph and Ester (Shuman) Garrett she has been a Shelby resident since 1983.
Ruth had worked at Hamilton Standard as a press operator and was a member of the Shelby VFW Auxilairy and past president of the Amvets Post #13.
She enjoyed reading, flowers and gardening, wind chimes animals and most of all loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Albert M. Hammonds, whom she married September 19, 1965; her children, Harold (Bonnie) Parsons of Galion, Rhonda (Richard) Glower of Tiro, Ray (Kim) Parsons of Mansfield and Scott Parsons of Atlanta, GA.; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; five sisters, Polly Butker of Marysville, Olive Carrel of Barnsville, Edna (Sam) Barr of Carrolton, Mary Whitacre and Jo (Kenny) Warner all of Mt. Victory; one brother, Jimmy (Karen) Garrett of Lafferty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Junie Shannon and Ethel Garrett and one brother, Tommy Garrett.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m.Monday June 1, 2015 at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby. Pastor Jay Horn will officiate and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
