MANSFIELD — The 179th Airlift Wing boasted its high marks on the recent Capstone inspection during a gathering Tuesday morning at the Life Celebration Reception Center.
The 179th received two ‘Effective’ grades from their most recent unit impact inspection from the Headquarters Air Mobility Command out of Scott Air Force Base.
“The end result is two grades,” said Col. Todd Thomas, the vice wing commander. “Wing gets one graded ‘Effective’ and the commander’s inspection program is also graded ‘Effective’.”
The 179th was effective across the board in the four major graded areas and in 73 sub areas.
“It’s a huge win for the wing,” Thomas said.
The 179th’s rating is the second-highest grade. Highly Effective the highest grade.
“Highly Effective for this year is a rarity. They always wants the wings to be out there continuously improving,” he noted.
A team of 17 and provided a “very top to bottom” inspection on unit effectiveness, Thomas said.
“Ultimately, it’s about execution of the mission. It’s about what we do downrange,” he said. “We can provide a lot of horsepower for the state of Ohio.”
Thomas said the positive grades given to the 179th Air Force Wing was a reflection of the culture at the air wing.
“That is a huge, solid win. I know it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of an outstanding or all that, but if you can make sure that your wing is managing resources correctly, and we are true to the taxpayer,” Thomas said.
“We are extremely proud of that. I know the boss is. It’s about sustainability. So we talked about sustainability this morning. ‘What are somethings we can look at?’ There are several things on our radar. We’ve worked to hard to get it this high to let it slide.”
