BUCYRUS — A Crawford County man, dubbed a drug lord by local authorities, was sent to prison for 20 years Monday after admitting his guilt in front of Judge Sean Leuthold and taking a plea deal.
Khabeer J. Brown, 40, of Galion, was sentenced to serve 10 years for two counts of Engaging in Corrupt Activities, both first-degree felonies. The 10-year terms will be served consecutively.
Brown was investigated for nearly two years by the Bucyrus Police Department when they received information from the Crawford County Sheriff’s office. When he was arrested March 22, authorities confiscated 6,400 grams of cocaine, 460 grams of heroin and $74,000 in cash.
Brown lived in Galion on 231 Walker Street. Crawford County Prosecutor Matthew Crall said Brown also “spent time” at 937 North Sandusky Street in Bucyrus.
Authorities said the estimated street value of the drugs amounted to $300,000. According to a Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office press release, the drugs will be destroyed and the cash will be split between the prosecutor’s office and Bucyrus Police Department.
The money will be used to continue the fight against illegal drugs in the community.
“We use these monies to train our officers and purchase equipment. By using these illegally gained monies, taxpayers save money,” read the press release.
“Today our community should be thanking the Bucyrus Police Department, specifically Captain Neil Assenheimer and Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoover for their diligent work in apprehending this offender,” read the press release.
The press release said the drug bust was Bucyrus’s largest ever.
“As a result of this arrest, we saw a noticeable difference in the amount of drugs on the street in our community,” Crall said in the press release.
