LEXINGTON, Ohio — Aaron Jannetti and his team from Endeavor Defense and Fitness in Hilliard, Ohio will teach people how to respond in an active shooter situation during a three-hour class next month at Ohio Adrenaline Elite in Lexington.

Jannetti, co-owner of Endeavor, has made headlines for his active shooter response courses that are meant to prepare and train others to save lives in the event of a violent attack.

Jarrod Needs, owner of Trigger Time Ohio, heard about Jannetti’s classes and sought to bring one to the area.

Needs said when it comes to active shooter situations, “People should be prepared. They should have some basic knowledge of how to defend themselves and others.”

Needs is a firm believer in defensive carry–even his classes at Trigger Time Ohio are taught from a defensive shooting standpoint.

He also recognizes that there are certain situations when you can’t rely on a firearm to help ward off an attacker.

But, “there are other ways you can stop an attacker,” he noted.

And that’s something participants in Jannetti’s class will learn more about.

The three-hour seminar will teach the basics of evade, barricade, arm and fight, with a major focus on the fight.

“We spend a lot of time actually doing physical hands-on stuff,” Jannetti said. “We do a lot of the actual tackling and fighting–teaching them how they would hit and strike back.”

No prior fighting or martial arts experience is necessary in order to sign up.

“What he’s going to teach is something really anybody can do,” Needs said.

Participants also learn how to handle medical issues.

One of the biggest takeaways participants can receive is a boost to their confidence by learning that they do have the power to fight back.

Needs said some people may be unwilling to respond because they’re afraid nobody else will help them. To counter that mentality, he referenced the Arizona shooting of Gabrielle Giffords, noting, “It was not until someone decided to hit the attacker with a chair that five others jumped in to help subdue the attacker.”

Participants will be able to apply the lessons they learn from the class to any type of violent attack, Needs said.

“We’re retraining people to understand that their protection and safety is actually their responsibility and then teaching them and empowering them how to do that,” Jannetti said. “That’s the most important part.”

The class is being held Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ohio Adrenaline Elite, located at 303 E. Main St. in Lexington. Needs voiced his appreciation to Ohio Adrenaline Elite for donating the facility for the class.

The class costs $23 and ages 15 and over are welcome to participate. To register, click here
