ONTARIO — He helped his team reach the state semifinals for the first time in almost 30 years and Ontario’s Carter Weaver was rewarded accordingly.
A junior outfielder and pitcher, Weaver earned a spot on the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association first team in Division II when the teams were announced Monday.
Ontario will play Washington Court House in the state semifinals Friday at Canal Park in Akron after winning a regional championship over the weekend. The regional title was the first for Ontario since 1994.
Weaver batted .461 with six doubles, three triples a home run and 20 runs batted in. He scored 18 runs and stole 165 bases.
Clear Fork’s Luke Schlosser was an honorable-mention selection as a utility player. Schlosser batted .465 with 17 RBIs and 29 runs scored. As a pitcher, the left-hander was 4-0 with 53 strikeouts and a 3.42 earned run average.
Madison’s Rian Lunsford was an honorable-mention selection as a first baseman. The senior batted .382 with 24 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
New Concord John Glenn’s Colt Emerson was selected the Division II Player of the Year. Hamilton Badin’s Brion Treadway was the Coach of the Year.
