MANSFIELD, Ohio – Tempest Tossed, the season finale on May 2 for the Mansfield Symphony, will feature Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto played by Juilliard graduate Anne Ku, and Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Wei-Heng Anne Ku has been playing violin since the age of 8. She has received numerous prizes and honors, including First Prize in the Temple University Preparatory Concerto Competition, the American Fine Arts Festival Bach Concerto Competition, and the South Orange Symphony Young Artists Competition.
Ku commented, “Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto is a magnificent work, full of beautiful melodies and challenging technical writing to thrill and mesmerize audiences. I can’t wait to return to Mansfield again since my last performance there at last year’s Maestro’s Gala. Mansfield brings a warm and deeply appreciative audience.”
Prior to the concert, the Mansfield Symphony is partnering with A Moveable Feast Supper Club, the Mansfield-based pop-up fine dining movement led by Susan Vander Maas and chef Rasul Welch, to present an unforgettable night out at the Renaissance Theatre.
A limited number of dinner package tickets are available for an upscale five-course meal in the upper lobby of the Renaissance. The meal will begin with charcuterie and crudités, followed by a smoked trout terrine with micro greens, daylilly and cattail shoots, radish, and pickled mustard seed. Next, guests will enjoy a chicken dumpling soup with seared ramps, radishes, and morels in dashi broth. The fourth course will be kombu cured pork, followed by strawberry shortcake for dessert.
Those not attending dinner may be interested in attending a pre-concert lecture from classical music enthusiast and historian Mark Sebastian Jordan at 7 p.m. in the theatre. Jordan will lead a lively discussion of the music that the audience will hear, and the unbelievable stories behind it. Concert previews are free and open to all concert ticket holders.
Package tickets for dinner and the concert range from $64 to $69 dependent upon seat selection; tickets for the concert only are $38, $33 and $28, and are on sale at the Renaissance Box Office, 419-522-2726, and online all the time at www.mansfieldtickets.com. All regular ticketing fees apply. The Renaissance is also pleased to continue their $15 ticket offer for this event. These seats, located in the back two rows of the balcony, may be purchased in person only, beginning two hours prior to the performance at the Renaissance Box Office, cash preferred. Tempest Tossed is part of the Graham Automall 2014-2015 Renaissance Season, presented with support from the Ohio Arts Council.
Concertgoers are also invited to attend a post-concert meet & greet with Music Director Thomas Hong, violinist Anne Ku, and musicians from the Mansfield Symphony.
