MANSFIELD, Ohio In February, The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District developed a new program, the Richland County Pioneers. The program focuses on interviews to gather histories from families in Richland County to preserve past agricultural knowledge and to reflect on the changes in agricultural practices over time.

Richland County has a long, rich history of agriculture, and the RSWCD wants to preserve the contributions of previous generations and their pioneering spirit. Trends come and go but history remains unchanged.

Through the Richland County Pioneer Program, current residents and future generations can learn about the role agriculture has played in the lives of multiple generations of farming families, as well as conservation methods utilized by pioneering entrepreneurs.

Richland SWCD will publish the Pioneer interviews and biographies on the District website, http://richlandswcd.net/.

Visit the District Facebook page, http://richlandswcd.net/, for periodic posts and photos of pioneers we have interviewed. To get more information on this program, please contact the Richland SWCD at 419-747-8685.
