Selma Maxine Shepherd, 75, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 17, 2015, at her home. She was born July 19, 1939, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, to the late Edward Richard Knipp and Effie May (Clark) Knipp.
It all began when she met her husband, Don Shepherd, at the community well and he walked her home. Don began visiting more often and would help with jobs around the house. Their love blossomed into a joyous wedding on December 23, 1956, and a wonderful marriage of 58 years. Selma was a homemaker her entire life and was devoted to her husband and family. She gave the best hugs ever.
A wonderful cook, it wasn’t uncommon to have 20-30 people over for Sunday dinner. Selma often took in those who needed a helping hand and was a shining example of Christian living. Her belief in the Lord helped her to guide her husband and children to living a Christ filled life. Selma’s legacy will forever live on in the lives of those she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Lee Shepherd of Jeffersonville, KY; five children, Marcia (Kevin) Evans, Anthony (Regina) Shepherd, Randy (Niecy) Shepherd, Penny (Jerry) Swindall, Lori (Tracey) Brown; fifteen grandchildren, Jeremy (Jen) Evans, Ciara (Chris) Zody, Jesse (Katie) Evans, Casey (Travis) Thompson, Nick (Donna) Shepherd, Dawn Shepherd, Dustin (Lynnette) Shepherd, Andrea (Josh) Rose, Laurie Beth (Brian) Spencer, Kyle Shepherd, Danielle Lee Swindall, Jerrod Allen Swindall, Karlee Beth Swindall, Jacob Brown and Amber Brown; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters, Irene Boebel, Christine Perry, Evelyn Shepherd, Mima Brinegar and Lorraine Coleman; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Daniel Lee Shepherd; grandson, Isaac Lee Evans; two great-granddaughters, Lily Grace Spencer and Sophia Amira Schunatz; and four siblings, Virginia Davis, Marie Dotterman, Clester Knipp and Lillian Perry.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A funeral service conducted by Rev. Kevin Evans will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery.
