MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Richland County Safe Communities Coalition reports that for the month of January there was one traffic death in Richland County.
There were 12 total traffic–related fatalities for all of 2014 and two traffic deaths in January of 2013 and 2014.

According to the Federal Highway Administration’s comprehensive costs for traffic fatalities, each fatality has a comprehensive cost of $1.4 million associated with it. The one fatality this year cost Richland County $1.4 million.
Although most drivers think about winter driving safety during the months of December and January, icy driving conditions can exist into April. The Richland County Safe Communities Coalition has a list of Safe Winter Driving Tips on the Richland Public Health website at www.richlandhealth.org
