The Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre will present the classic Rodgers and Hart musical, “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court“ along with the companion piece “The Prince and the Pauper” at the Renaissance Theatre Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. as part of the Graham Automall 2014-2015 Renaissance Season and the Mechanics Bank Education Series. Based on the novel by Mark Twain, “Connecticut Yankee” tells the story of Martin Bennett who is magically transported back to the court of King Arthur, where all sorts of misadventures and comical mishaps occur. The musical score includes some of the best-loved songs ever written by Richard Rodgers, (“The Sound of Music”) and Lorenz Hart. One of the unique aspects of this performance is the onstage band. Actors will be performing double duty – when they’re not busy on stage, they’ll be playing an instrument in the orchestra. Also on the bill, the younger actors will be performing another classic Twain story, “The Prince and the Pauper.” When young Tom Canty switches places with the Prince of Wales, (who just happens to be his look alike), the two boys turn the court of Henry the VIII upside down.
