Gary Lee Hendrix

Gary Lee Hendrix, 71, of Ontario, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, surrounded by his family at home under hospice care.

Gary was born on Feb. 8, 1951, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Lemoine “Lee” and Martha (Dawson) Hendrix. He graduated from Coventry High School in 1969.

He has been an Ontario, Ohio, resident for the past four years, but grew up and lived in the Akron, Ohio, area most of his life.

Gary was an independent contractor for Ethan Allen for over 40 years, had his own furniture restoration business, and for many years, owned Hendrix Delivery, a furniture delivery service.

He was quite the craftsman and a master at his trade. He loved to restore furniture and was constantly tinkering around in his shop, or garage, and loved helping others fix things.

His love for his family was fierce and he enjoyed every moment with them. He was a proud Father and Papa. He was great at telling Papa jokes and making people laugh. He was his grandkids biggest fan and attended their events as much as possible. He had a big heart, kind soul, and was a lot of fun to be around.

Gary adored the love of his life, Darlene, whom he married on Sept. 5, 1969. He was a loving husband, father, and Papa.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Mullins) of Ontario, Ohio; his two sons, David and Heather Hendrix of Ontario, OH, and Daniel and Carissa Hendrix of Monument, CO; and his five grandchildren, Kylie Hendrix, Sarah Hendrix, Matthew Hendrix, Ashlee Hendrix and Daniel “Danny” Hendrix, Jr. Gary is also survived by two sisters, Jackie (Mike) Spencer of Reynoldsburg, OH, and Louise (John) Snively of Hanahan, SC; a sister-in-law, Diane Mullins of Akron, OH; several nieces, nephews, cousins; special extended family, Joanie and David Worthen of Marion, OH; and dear family friends, Paul and Debbie Wilhelm of Akron, Ohio.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Lee Hendrix and his mother, Martha Hendrix.
