MANSFIELD — A 19-year-old Mansfield man has been charged in connection with making social media posts referring to threats of rioting and destructive activity, according to Mansfield police.

“Our investigators were able to identify the source of the posts, as well as the person responsible for making them,” police Chief Keith Porch said in a press release Friday morning.

Police contacted and then arrested Jaywuan Peavy. He was arraigned in municipal court on Friday morning, according to court records and bond was set at $50,000 cash.

Peavy is not allowed internet access if he is released, court records show. A bench trial is scheduled June 18.

Police said Peavy was charged with misdemeanor counts of inducing panic, inciting to violence, attempting to riot and possession of marijuana.

“Also, information was been circulating on social media from other sources stating that ANTIFA is to be in Mansfield on this date,” Porch said.

“However, the Mansfield Division of Police has NO credible evidence stating this as fact. Hopefully, with the arrest of the person responsible for making the (social media) posts, this will help to mitigate any future or potential riotous and/or destructive activity,” Porch said.

Porch said police are “actively monitoring” the situation and taking all necessary precautions.
