James F. Marshall, 79, of Mansfield passed away August 18, 2014 at MedCentral Health System.
Jim was born August 13, 1935 in Mansfield to George and Lillian Smith Marshall. He was a 1953 graduate of Mansfield Senior High. Jim worked for a variety of businesses including managing the bus station, working for Thermodisc, Auto Call and later retiring from ODOT in 2000.
Some of his accomplishments include setting up the first St. Vincent DePaul store, along with being responsible for real estate work in the development of the Route 30 bypass in District 3 while at ODOT. Jim was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Sons of Herman, Elks Lodge 56, and he served as a Deacon of the Diocese of Toledo serving the people of St. Peter’s Catholic Church for 20 years. Jim loved helping people but never wanted to take credit for it, and he had a love for children calling everyone “George.”
Survivors include his wife Krista Louise Marshall; children Susan (Don) Ramsey of Shelby, Jim (Kathy) Marshall of Mansfield; grandchildren Leslie, Rachel, Melissa, Matthew, Amanda (Cody), Melinda; great-grandchildren Issaiah, Serena, Dwayne, Lamari, Alexa, Nasir, Gabriella, Zhane, Alexander; brother Dick (Sally) Marshall of Colorado Springs; sisters Eileen Houseberg of Sarasota, Carol (Jim) Sgambellone of Mansfield; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret; sister Marilyn Whisler.
Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 4 p.m. Calling hours will also be held on Friday from 9 – 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am with Rev. Gregory Hite and Fr. Charles Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Deacon Formation Fund (Diocese of Toledo), St. Vincent DePaul, or Msgr. Edward C. Dunn Foundation for Education.
