SHELBY — The Shelby Area Democratic Club conducted an electronic meeting on May 21,  the organization’s first meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its last meeting was in February.

The group’s 14th annual Bakeless Bake Sale is scheduled for June 18. This year’s featured recipes are Martha Washington’s Famous Candy and Edith Wilson’s Hot Peppered Nuts. Invitations to participate will soon be mailed.

Contributors of $50 or more will receive a copy of the Bakeless Bake Sale Cookbook.

Members approved the officers’ recommendation to make $700 in initial contributions to four local and district candidates.

“The club has budgeted many thousand of dollars for candidate contributions,” club president Garland Gates said. “More contributions will be made after the Bakeless Bake Sale.”

The club’s participation in area parades is up in the air because of COVID-19. Officers will monitor the situation.

Members of the Richland County Democratic Central Committee were reminded of the party’s quadrennial re-organizational meeting on Thursday, May 28. It, too, will be an electronic meeting.

The next meeting of the Shelby Area Democratic Club is scheduled for  June 18.
