Richard “Ted” Carmel, Sr., 92, of Galion died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in Galion.
Born September 28, 1921, in Leesville and was the son of Charles and Ethel (Thoman) Carmel. He married Mary M. Metz on December 18, 1949 and she preceded him March 22, 2014.
Ted was a graduate of Galion High School and served during World War II in the United States Army. He retired from General Motors after 27 years where he worked in production control. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Galion, GM Salaried Retirees Club and the American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion. Ted enjoyed landscaping, previously owned the 3 T’s Chip and Putt in Galion and after retirement worked part time at Carmel Motors in Galion.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Tab and Carla Carmel of Galion; three granddaughters, Crista (Justin) Tinch of Galion, Candy (Michael) Gilfilen of Gainesville, FL and Melinda (Brad) Lanker of Mt. Gilead; grandson Tab R. Carmel of Columbus; four great-granddaughters, Alexa and Riley Tinch of Galion and Juliana and Vivian Lanker of Mt. Gilead.
In addition to his parents and wife he is also preceded by a son, Richard “Ted” Carmel, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Carol R. Carmel.
At his request no calling hours will be held. Private services for the family were held Friday, August 29, 2014, with Rev. Matt Wheeler officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
Full military honors were held by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
