Grieving the loss of a loved one can be difficult for anyone to deal with, but those emotions are especially confusing and challenging for a child. HomeCare Matters Home Health & Hospice understands how hard loss can be on children and is offering Superhero Grief Camp July 24-26.

Children’s Superhero Grief Camp is three days of activities and discussion designed to help children grieve in a creative and safe way, while promoting reassurance and healing. Children who attend will become a “Superhero-in-Training.”

Through exciting games, constructive activities and post-activity debriefing sessions, they will learn that the feelings they are experiencing are normal and can be harnessed for good. By facing villainous Fear, Sorrow, Anger and more, they will find a process that can end their battles with each of those emotions victoriously. On the final day of camp, parents and caretakers will be able to see and experience the healing activities for themselves.

Trained and experienced grief counselors, volunteers and an on-duty nurse will oversee children’s needs and will be on-hand at all times to assist campers.

The camp will take place 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 24-26 at HomeCare Matters’ Galion location at 1220 N. Market St.

Superhero camp is free but registration is necessary. Registration packs are available by calling 1-800-4-Nurses or emailing bquailhcm@gmail.com.

Children who attend need to bring an extra pair of socks, sunscreen and bug spray. Individual special needs items such as inhalers or medication should be brought and labeled. Everything else will be provided, including lunch, snacks and drinks.

Activities will be outdoors and some of them will be messy so children are encouraged to wear play clothes, including sneakers. Please do not send children to the camp in sandals or flip flops.
