WEST SALEM — Hillsdale quarterback Caden Muchler threw for 259 yards and a touchdown, and added a rushing TD to pace the Falcons to a 24-21 victory over Northwestern in Wayne County Athletic League action on Friday night.
This was a see-saw affair that wasn’t decided until Muchler rifled a 25-yard TD pass to Briar Funk with just 33 seconds remaining.
Brandon Reardon’s 1-yard TD run got the Falcons off to a 7-0 first-quarter advantage. But Heldon Hooper’s 7-yard scoring jaunt tied the game for the Huskies.
Justin Ziegler’s 27-yard field goal gave Hillsdale a 10-7 halftime edge, and Mutchler’s 1-yard TD plunge pushed the margin to 17-7 entering the final period.
But Northwestern struck with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, on short runs by Kaden Mellott and JJ Cline, to set up Mutchler’s heroics.
