MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Home Brew Club will once again participate in the annual American Homebrewers Association Big Brew, where people across the country who make their own beers celebrate their hobby.
In honor of the occasion, Mansfield’s club will brew more than 10 beers Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Culligan Quality Water of North Central Ohio, 350 S Main St. and invites the public to join the event.
“What’s neat is that morning there’s thousands of people brewing beer at the same time on the home-brew level,” said Cameron Karger, club member and owner of Culligan.
There’s even a simultaneous toast, according to the American Homebrewers Association website.
Karger said there are more than a dozen styles of beer that can be made at home, but IPAs are his favorite.
“My experiments aren’t so much crazy. I’m analytical about it,” he said. “I make a lot of IPAs, but there are some people in our group that have tried other things.”
He joined the home brew club to meet “like-minded people” who also enjoy the craft.
“We are a group of people who are from wide ranges of experience and that’s what makes it cool,” Karger said. “You’ve got the guys doing it for years and years helping the guys in the middle. And everybody’s giving their feedback when you bring a batch to the club meeting every month.”
The public is encouraged to stop by on May 4 to see the home-brew process.
“It’s almost like an open house. Anybody can come who’s ever pondered how its done or if they’re thinking about doing it,” Karger said.
