Ronald E. “Ron” Zimmerman, 77, of Mount Gilead, passed away at his home Tuesday evening, Jan. 29, 2019.
On June 15, 1941, Ron was born in Danville, Ohio, the only son of the late Kenneth L. and Ada B. (Hoglan) Zimmerman. He attended Danville High School and later got his GED while living in Rhode Island.
A Vietnam veteran, Ron served his country in the U.S. Navy from October 1963 until October 1973. He spent most of his time on a ship working on the flight deck. He was a member of AMVETS Post 87 and VFW Post 8054.
Ron married Linda L. Wright on Oct. 14, 1969 in Rhode Island and shared over 49 years as husband and wife.
For many years, Ron was an over-the-road truck driver. He was employed by NACHURS Fertilizer and J.G. Clark. He then was a manager at Tab Leasing for over 10 years, retiring in 2004.
A man of faith, Ron spent many years as a member of the Church of Christ.
Ron loved being outdoors. He had a SportCraft boat he always took out on Lake Erie. He and Linda had a trailer on the lake and spent numerous summers there. He enjoyed fishing whenever he could. He also liked NASCAR and playing cards, especially poker on his computer.
Ron enjoyed living at Candlewood Lake and riding his golf cart around the community. He loved sitting on his porch, visiting with friends and having a drink or two.
Ron is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Eric (Christine) Mickley; a daughter-in-law, Melanie Gollihue; and seven grandchildren: David Mickley II, Julie Mickley, Christopher, Rosanna, Sheena, Jacob and Dalton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Mickley and two sisters: Lillian Rafferty and Evelyn Cullins.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
