MANSFIELD — Shawshank Hustle race directors Roger and Christina Bowersock announced that Vertical Runner Race Management of Wooster will continue to keep this annual tradition flourishing in Mansfield.
New race directors, Brian and Tammy Polen, own Vertical Runner of Wooster, a specialty running store as well as Vertical Runner Race Management. Through their race efforts, tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for local nonprofits, and adding the Shawshank Hustle to their portfolio will help to quickly increase that number as they raise funds for the Ohio State Reformatory.
“Having been involved sponsors of the Shawshank Hustle since the first year, and having been exposed to the Mansfield community through our involvement with the Mansfield 13er in 2017, we are very excited to have a more permanent connection and stake in the community through this race,” Tammy Polen said. “It is such a fun event that raises funds for such a prominent landmark in our region, and we look forward to many more years of success.”
“We are excited to see the Shawshank Hustle return for a fourth year on June 9, 2018,” said Jodie Snavely, Destination Mansfield – Richland County, Group Tour/Media Director. “This family fun event draws runners, walkers and fans of the No. 1 movie of all time, ‘The Shawshank Redemption,’ from around the U.S.
“The race will begin and end at the Ohio State Reformatory and weave participants past filming sites in downtown Mansfield. Destination Mansfield – Richland County is pleased to promote The Shawshank Hustle and has proven to be a great success in previous years.”
Registration is open, and the race will take place June 9 at 8:30 a.m. at The Ohio State Reformatory where much of the 1994 film “The Shawshank Redemption” was filmed.
Vertical Runner Race Management is an event management company that produces events ranging from 5Ks to the 24-Hour National Championships and offers timing services for 50 to 75 local races annually.
