“Have a cup, change the world” is the inspirational slogan of The Coffee House. The quaint, European styled cafe is housed in the Crossroads Church located at 1188 Park Avenue West, Mansfield and their mission is to “connect lives and sell good coffee for a good cause.”

That mission is the result of the combined passions and visions of Pastor Tim Armstrong, who after returning from a trip to Europe, was inspired by the style and quality of the cafes he frequented. The Coffee House opened August 6, 2012 and operates with a staff of about six employees.

“Our staff are special people, more than just employees,” said co-manager Jocelyn Nichols. The Coffee House offers an array of single origin coffees, specialty blends and brewed coffees. And in an effort to support local business they offer pastries, cookies and bagels in from What’s 4 Dessert and Buckeye Bakery.

“Our goal is simply to serve high-quality coffee and to support our community”, Nichols said. “We offer open mic nights and concerts too.” She said that the vision for The Coffee House in the future is to grow in excellence and support of the community.

Aaron and Jocelyn Nichols are active members in the church and share a passion for good coffee and a commitment to the mission at The Coffee House. Aaron Nichols who manages the cafe, is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jocelyn Nichols was born and raised in Mansfield and grew up through the Crossroads Church. Her parents are on the church staff.

The couple met and married in Boston in 2010. While living in Boston, they each had a background working in the coffee business. He worked for Starbucks and she worked for a small, independently-owned cafe.

In January of 2012 the Nichols’ moved back to Mansfield. Their love and passion for high-quality coffee along with their desire to build community flourished when they partnered with family friend Les Stonehan, founder of Deeper Roots development in 2009. The mission of Deeper Roots is based on a passion for ethical sourcing and the crafting of specialty coffees and a commitment to support coffee bean farmers in the Guatemalan village of Santa Maria de Jesus. The missions were a good match.

A passion for good coffee and a desire to change the world brewed into every cup served alongside a great helping of community support, makes The Coffee House more than a cafe. It is an experience in every drop.
