HURON— Former Mansfield resident Michael J. McDevitt passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Born in Mansfield, Ohio, on January 16, 1934, to John P. and Veronica (Welsch) McDevitt.
Mike graduated from St. Peter’s High School in Mansfield in 1952. Following school, he spent 23 years working for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Mansfield. He enjoyed a variety of positions in Payroll, Industrial Engineering, Computer Programming, and Manufacturing Systems Design. Along the way, Mike attended business classes at Ashland University. Following Westinghouse, he held management positions at Gorman Rupp and Richland Newhope Industries in Mansfield and finished his career with the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities in Columbus, Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and was a proud member of the 11th Airborne Division.
On September 12, 1959, he married Ziska (Jane) Pappas of Huron, Ohio, and they recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with Michael, Laure, and Amy, and Mike loved them all dearly. He was immensely proud of his wife and all his children and grandchildren.
Upon retirement in 1997, Mike and Jane returned to Huron to enjoy living at the Lake. There, he was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Mike enjoyed running, completing the Columbus Marathon at age 48, and bike riding, riding several miles a day around his beloved neighborhood until just recently. In addition, he had so many talents and hobbies, including photography, woodworking, researching and documenting the achievements of local Huron athletes and military veterans, being on the film crew for the Huron Football team on Friday nights and Saturday mornings, and especially hanging out with his numerous very special nieces and nephews, his Friday morning club, and, of course, spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, James McDevitt, Dorothy McDevitt, John “Jack” McDevitt, Elizabeth Risacher, Mary Margaret “Marty” Metzger, Joan McDevitt, Sr. Michael Ann (Helen) McDevitt, Barbara Thielen Forney; and his son-in-law, Christopher Jones.
Surviving are his wife, Jane; children, Drs. Michael (Jennifer) McDevitt of Belmont, CA, Laure Jones of Parma, OH, and Amy (Patrick) Cairoli of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Taylor (Alex) Lombardo, Michael Jones, Keara McDevitt, and Caitlyn Abigail McDevitt; great-granddaughter, Colette Lombardo; sister-in-law, Judy McDevitt; and so many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home & Cemetery, 410 Main St., Huron, Ohio.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Huron, with burial to follow at Meadow Green Cemetery .
