Wayne Daniels peacefully passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 in Colonial Manor Health Care Center in Loudonville. He was 81.
Wayne was born Jan. 6, 1936 in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, to William “Chet” and Florence (Gerstner) Daniels. After high school, Wayne joined the Navy and later took a job in Columbus working for the Parks and Recreation Department.
For more than 25 years Wayne served as a Firefighter under the Division of Fire and Medic in Columbus and the surrounding areas. His badge number was #907 and co-workers appreciated his delicious cooking. He was also a skilled woodworker and crafted everything from toys and puzzles to a curved staircase in the home he built for his family.
Family came first for Wayne, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He took them camping, fishing, boating, and skiing (both snow and water). Wayne never met a stranger and he was always telling a joke and drinking a cup of black coffee.
Wayne was a member of Three Crosses, A United Methodist Fellowship in Butler and enjoyed using his woodworking talents for the Lord and fellowshipping with his church family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judy Daniels, of Butler; six children Keith (Margo) Daniels, Mark (Julie) Daniels, Lori (Dan) McCabe, Jeffrey (Pam) Wharton, Cheryl Villa, and Christine (Don) Taylor; 11 grandchildren Tara Dougherty, Brian Daniels, Drew Daniels, Nick Daubert, Jennifer Grubbs, Katie Daniels, Matthew Long, Christopher Shearer, Eric Young, Kristin Young, and David Wharton; four great-granddaughters Lucia Daniels, Vada Grubbs, Naveyda Long, and Gracie Lee; sister-in-law Laura Belcher; close friend Tim Whatman; along with numerous friends, acquaintances, and his church family.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother Dean Daniels, and sister Judy Daniels.
Friends may call 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 in Three Crosses, A United Methodist Fellowship in Butler where a memorial service celebrating his life will begin at 3 p.m. and Pastor Brandon Keck will officiate.
Contributions in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or Southern Care Hospice may be made at the funeral home.
