Earl H. ”Bunny” Smith, 86, of Crestline, died Monday, April 3, 2017 at his home after a brief battle with cancer.
Bunny was born in Crestline on April 28, 1930 to the late Roy R. and Edna Belle (Robinson) Smith. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Ann (Horning) Smith, whom he married on Sept. 8, 1956.
Bunny lived in Crestline most of his life. He attended Crestline High School, graduating in the Class of 1949. He obtained an Associate Degree in Engineering from the University of Akron. Bunny worked at Carter Machine in Galion for 42 years, retiring in 1992.
He coached baseball in Crestline for over 15 years, with one team competing in the VFW Baseball National Finals in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Bunny enjoyed watching television, but most important to him were his family and grandkids.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Linda Todd, Crestline, Brenda Payne, Springboro, Kelly Bauer, Crestline, Brian Smith & June Pettit, Galion; his grandchildren, Miranda Jenkins, Benjamin Perry, Emily Todd, Zak Payne, Brandon Bauer, Rachel Pettit, and his great-grandchildren; Haylee Black, Marissa Black, Libbie Perry, Evie Bauer, Addelynn Kleilein.
He was preceded in death by his brothers; Wendell J. Smith Sr., Wayne Smith and Roy Smith.
Friends may call Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Crestline. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline.
