Janice “Bruno” Marie Mattox, known also as Snowbird of the Shawnee Nation, age 16 of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 12, 2026. She was born on December 20, 2009, in Mansfield to Robert H. Mattox and Jeanne A. (Blackstone).
Jan worked at Dairy Queen, and she just recently finished her sophomore year of high school with straight A’s. She was multitalented and creative, both as an artist and as a singer, and she enjoyed painting as well as writing. She especially enjoyed creating her own characters.
She was a true original with her own unique style, and she was also a kind and sincere soul with a beautiful heart. She loved animals and nature, going to concerts, and making gifts for friends and family.
She enjoyed anime, and she loved supporting her community and the people in it as a member of the Teen Advisory Board at the local library and as a member of Love On A Mission. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her parents Robert and Amy Mattox and Jeanne Blackstone; her siblings Autumn Mattox, Rage Mattox, Ireland Mast, Skylar Mattox, Lia Potts, Brynne Morris, Sayah Blakely, and Tamila Blackstone; and her grandparents Jenny Sprague, Sandra and Fred Welch, and Jim and Connie Blackstone.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Harold and Agnes Mattox and her grandfather JR Sprague.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Services will follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home to help cover the costs of funeral expenses.
