Jeffery Alan Gerger, Sr., 68, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. His daughter, Heather “Rosebud” John, and his brother, Mike, were by his side during his final moments.
Born on November 22, 1957, Jeff was the son of Joseph and Delores Gerger, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Linda and Margaret (Peggy).
Jeff was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was defined by kindness, generosity, and unconditional love. A selfless man in every sense of the word, he never hesitated to help someone in need. Whether it was offering his time, his talents, or the shirt off his back, Jeff found joy in giving to others and seeing a smile on their faces. He cared more about the well-being of those around him than he did for himself.
Jeff loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, and nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by his family. He treasured every moment with his grandchildren and was known for his playful sense of humor. One of his favorite pastimes was teasing the grandkids by saying that one of them had “stuck their tongue out at me,” or “whoop her” just to get them laughing and riled up. Those simple moments became some of the family’s most cherished memories.
Above all else, Jeff loved his children more than life itself. He was incredibly proud of them and of the family they built. He is survived by his son, Jeff Gerger Jr. (Jennifer), and their children, Logan and Tessa Gerger; and his daughter, Heather “Rosebud” John, and her children, Caleb, Kyleigh, and Zoey.
He is also survived by his brothers, Michael, Mark (Jenny), and Stephen (Melody), as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Jeff shared a special bond with his former wife, Diane Allen, whom he often referred to as his best friend. Their friendship remained an important and meaningful part of his life.
In 2021, Jeff was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Through determination and strength, he fought and overcame the disease. Later, when faced with another cancer diagnosis and given a prognosis measured in days or weeks, Jeff once again demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience, living far longer than expected and continuing to spend precious time with the people he loved most.
Jeff’s legacy is one of compassion, generosity, perseverance, and love. The countless lives he touched through his kindness and willingness to help others will never be forgotten. His family will remember his laughter, his teasing spirit, his unwavering support, and the deep love he showed every day.
Though he will be deeply missed, Jeff’s memory will live on in every fishing trip, every family gathering, every helping hand extended to someone in need, and every smile inspired by the stories shared about him.
He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
