MANSFIELD — Two Mansfield girls will participate in the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program this summer.
Madeline Carter, 19, and Paige Divelbiss, 12, both representatives of St. Peter’s Catholic School, earned the right to compete in different events at the state pageant during the Miss Greater Cleveland Scholarship Pageant, Feb. 25.
Carter was named Miss Greater Cleveland and Divelbiss was named Miss Spirit of Ohio’s Miss Outstanding Teen.
Each nominee must win a local pageant as an entrance to the Miss Ohio Scholarship Pageant. Whoever wins the Miss Ohio crown will compete on the next stage as a Miss America contestant.
Carter, a sophomore at Baldwin Wallace University will be returning to the Renaissance Theater in Mansfield for the pageant where she portrayed a chimney sweep in Mary Poppins and Babette in Beauty and the Beast. She also had a role in White Christmas.
She is a double major in Theater and Broadcasting, and has a minor in dance.
“It’s an amazing experience. I am excited to come back and finally have a chance to represent my hometown,” she said.
This is Carter’s first year competing, but she said she spent her past three years in the pageant as a member of the production entertainment crew. There she sang the national anthem and was a member of the dance entertainment crew.
Carter said she will be singing the song ‘Gold’ by Linda Eder for the talent portion of the competition, one of her favorite parts of the contest.
“No single part of the competition is difficult,” Miss Greater Cleveland said. “But competing is vulnerable. You have to play yourself. Normally onstage, I play a character, but during this completion I have to play myself.
“But it is going to be a life changing and rewarding experience.”
Divelbiss said she is excited for her first year of competing in the Outstanding Teen division.
“I’m very excited,” Paige, a seventh grader at St. Peter’s said of her first year of competition. “I am excited to go up on stage, compete and represent Miss Spirit of Ohio’s Outstanding Teen.”
The two have been on a stage together before, Divelbiss said, participating in the St. Peter’s performance of Annie.
