With a faith that anchored his life and a spirit that pursued the open sky, Chris R. Oyster lived in a way that reflected a devotion to God, and a deep love for flight. Whether surrounded by those he loved the most, or climbing into the cockpit, he carried a sense of peace, purpose, and wonder. To those who knew him, it was clear that Chris found joy not only in soaring above the clouds, but in walking humbly with the Lord.

Chris R. Oyster, 67, of Bellville, passed into the presence of his Lord, Tuesday, April 21, 2026. He was born February 21, 1959, the son of Carroll and Lois (Brewer) Oyster. A 1977 graduate of Clear Fork High School, Chris built a life rooted in hard work, commitment, and deep family devotion. On May 20, 1978, he married his high school sweetheart, Deb Ocheltree.

From the age of 8, Chris worked alongside his father on the Oyster family dairy farm on Route 97, just east of Bellville. For 35 years, he poured his time, energy, and livelihood into that land, embodying dedication and perseverance. He later spent 18 years in the elevator trade before retiring, carrying with him the same work ethic and quiet excellence.

In later years, Chris discovered his passion in aviation. He took to the skies in his Starduster and Great Lakes aerobatic planes, competing in regional competitions and flying over the Clear Fork Valley. Friends and neighbors would often look up to see him flying across the sky, performing barrel rolls, loops, and hammerhead turns. He absolutely loved being in the clouds.

Among family and friends, one phrase was often heard: “What do we do?… call Chris.” He was a gifted problem solver, able to fix, rebuild, or repurpose nearly anything. Yet he carried his talents with humility, never seeking recognition. Chris was a quiet man, a careful listener whose words, when spoken, carried weight and wisdom.

Above all, Chris was a loving and devoted husband to Deb and a faithful, godly example to his children and grandchildren. He showed through his life what it meant to be a spirit-filled husband, father, and grandfather—steadfast in faith, gentle in guidance, and strong in love. He attended North Bend Church of the Brethren.

Chris is survived by his wife, Deb Oyster; his children, Ryan (Meghan) Oyster, Amber (Shane) Hedrick, Jordan (Shannon) Oyster, Evan (Elizabeth) Oyster, Dylan (Aprille) Oyster, and Holdan Oyster; and his 11 grandchildren, Carter, Jackson, McKinley, Blade, Remington, Bexley, Baylor, Blake, Penelope, Declan, and Avalynn. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry (Pam) Oyster, Rhonda (Jerry) Miller, and Regina (Bob) Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Lois Oyster.

His family will receive friends Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 4-8 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 am. Pastor Patrick Bailey will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Esophageal Cancer Action Network (ecan.org).
