ONTARIO — Ontario police announced Thursday morning they have formally requested assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation into an ongoing investigation at 1876 August Drive.
In a press release, Lt. Tony Grimwood said the request is part of the department’s commitment to “conducting a thorough and transparent investigation.”
Grimwood noted there is no new evidence prompting additional investigative actions. He described BCI’s involvement as a continuation of the original investigation.
The investigation remains active and will require additional time to complete, according to the release.
Police first responded Aug. 9 to the residence after receiving a report of concerning conditions inside the property.
Authorities are investigating what they described as “suspicious circumstances” discovered inside the vacant home, prompting the request for BCI assistance.
Upon arrival, officers observed fecal matter and food debris splattered across walls, ceilings and doors, extending into nearby areas. Investigators also located a set of handcuffs in a room lined with plywood.

“At this time, all known individuals associated with this address have been identified, located, and confirmed to be safe,” Grimwood said in an Aug. 10 press release.
Sgt. Casey Bly previously told Richland Source there is no active threat to the public. Police ask anyone with information about the property or suspicious activity in the area to contact the Ontario Police Department at 419-529-2115.
“As we are working to investigate further, we will update when we receive further information. At this time, we will not be doing any in-person interviews due to the need to focus on the investigation,” Grimwood said in a previous press release.
According to Richland County property transfer records dated April 1, the home was purchased by U.S. Bank Trust National Association for $201,124.48.
