“The louder the music, the better. And dessert first, so you always have room.” These “Lyleisms”, give us all a small glimpse into the one of a kind character who was Lyle. His life was meant to be enjoyed, preferably with the music turned up, and a little extra road left to explore. Lyle found joy in old cars, traveling, guns, good music and the company of his family and friends.
Lyle Raymond Lefever, III, 83, of Lexington, passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2026, following a brief decline in health.
Born July 30, 1943, in Butler, Pennsylvania and raised in Mars, Pennsylvania (he joked that he was a Martian), Lyle was the son of the late Lyle Jr. and Ruth Lefever. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968, stationed in Padova, Italy. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Lyle built a long career with Sprint, where he worked for more than 25 years before retiring. But retirement never meant sitting still for long.
Lyle’s passion for Oldsmobiles was more than a hobby; it was a way of life. An avid collector and proud member of Oldsmobile clubs, he traveled for the joy of taking the longest route possible to explore as much as he could. Why hurry to the destination when there was so much to discover along the way?
His interests were as varied as his travels. Lyle loved food, dancing, fixing cars and tractors, and anything sweet. He enjoyed being part of his Mid-Ohio racing family and joining them for all the races. He was also proud of his opportunity to be host family for 5 foreign exchange students.
He was a proud member of several organizations that meant a great deal to him. He served as treasurer of American Legion Post 754, was a member of Liederkranz, and belonged to AMVETS Post 26. Through these groups grew numerous friendships.
On May 7, 1994, Lyle married Nance Landry at Steam Corners Church. Together, they shared 32 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
Lyle is survived by his wife Nance Lefever and his daughters, Sabrina Lefever (Darren) and Amanda Landry. He was a very proud PawPaw to his partner in crime, Knox, whom the two shared a special bond, and Lyle surely made the most of every opportunity to enjoy a little mischief together. Spanky, the family’s five-year-old dog and Lyle’s faithful snack buddy. HIs siblings whom he loved, Charlie Lefever, Carolyn Graham, Evelyn Robbins, Cindy Kelly, and Sharon Lefever; sisters-in-law Jan Beech and Linda Linn; his first wife, Luisa Morton; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his sister, LaDonna Lefever, and brothers-in-law David Linn and Bob Beech.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Pathways Hospice, especially Jesse, Dawn, Kim, Lee, Roxanna, Christina, and Katie, for their kindness, compassion, and care during Lyle’s final days at home.
Friends may call Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Come have a cup of coffee, and a cookie, just like Lyle loved, and share some memories with his family. His funeral service will begin at 12 noon on Saturday at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Shauck Cemetery, with military honors provided by the United States Air Force and the Morrow County Military Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Morrow County Dog Shelter.
