LEXINGTON — This is the announcement trail lovers have been anticipating.

Richland County Engineer Adam Gove announced Friday that the Richland B&O Trail is open for byciclists.

“We are happy to announce that the Richland B&O Trail, at its intersection with Lexington-Springmill Road, is now open,” Gove stated in a press release. “Users of the bike trail must use caution as the area remains an active construction site and should not leave the Bike Trail path within the work zone.

The intersection of Lexington-Springmill Road and Home Road remains closed to vehicle traffic.

There are several safety items (guardrail, pavement marking, signage, lighting) that must be completed before the road can open.

The contractor is working diligently to have the road open on Friday, Oct. 30.

A separate notice will be sent out when the roadway is officially open.
