A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered~
Judith Ann “Judi” Chumbley passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 10, 2026, and is now resting gently in the arms of her Lord. She was 84 years old.
Born June 16th, 1942, in Shelby, Ohio, Judi was the daughter of Eugene and Doris (Foracker) Broderick.
Judi graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960, where she was an exceptionally accomplished student. She was a dedicated member of both the marching and concert bands for four years and the chorus for two years. Her talent as a trumpet player was formally highlighted by her selective membership in the school’s Trumpet Quartet. In addition to her musical contributions, Judi was incredibly active across campus. She served as the Homecoming Queen, was a cheerleader for three years, was a member of the girls’ bowling team, acted in the junior and senior class plays, and served on the Annual Yearbook Staff. Her senior superlative caption fittingly read “If it’s possible to have everything – she does”.
After graduation, she attended beauty school in Columbus, Ohio where she earned her Ohio Cosmetology License. Judi went on to work at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, Ohio. Her role as the manager’s secretary led to several lifelong friendships.
On October 1,1977, Judi married Harold Perry Chumbley, Jr. beginning nearly 50 years of marriage. She worked alongside her husband for 25 years as Richland Lumber’s Accounts Receivable Specialist.
Judi loved her family deeply, her passion in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her unwavering devotion to her family kept her busy, but when she had a quiet moment to herself, you would find her curled up with a good book or in the yard enjoying nature.
Some of Judi’s happiest times were the family get-togethers, cooking holiday dinners with her daughters, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, listening to her grandson play the piano, and taking her grandchildren shopping, “which always turned into an adventure”. She also loved reading, drawing and coloring with her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren.
Judi loved to dance! She’ll always be remembered dancing to her favorite Bob Segar’s “Old Time Rock and Roll”. She also loved playing a good game of Euchre where her sweet, quiet nature changed into a very competitive force. After retirement, Judi could often be found browsing auctions and garage sales. She enjoyed the hunt just as much as the treasure she might bring home.
Judi attended St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Mifflin and was a devoted supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart.
Judi leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will forever be grateful for the home, the traditions, and the steadfast love she gave them. Her legacy will live on for many generations through “her love and grace”.
