Together again. On Friday, October 9, 2026, Roberta Jean Weithman was reunited in heaven with the love of her life, Carl L. “Buzz” Weithman.

Affectionately known as “Berta,” she was born on November 24, 1937, to Clark Dickerson and Florence Flowers. She grew up in Galion, where she spent many wonderful summers working as a lifeguard at Heise Park.

After graduating from Galion High School, Berta married Carl “Buzz” Weithman. Together, they built a house, made it a loving home, and raised a family. Their marriage spanned 65 wonderful years.

Berta devoted many years to caring for her four children and creating a warm, welcoming home. A talented seamstress, she often made matching outfits for herself and her daughters. She was also a wonderful cook whose delicious meals brought the family together. Among her specialties were beautifully decorated honey cookies and other sweets. Family game nights revealed her spirited side: Berta was a fierce Aggravation player who delighted in knocking others off the board and claiming victory. As the next round began, she would cheerfully declare, “Suckers are first.”

Some of Berta’s happiest memories were made during summers at Walton Lake with her children: Carla (Tab) Carmel, Amy (Mike) Flaherty, Jeff Weithman, and Vicki (Chris) Leibengood.

Later, Berta and Carl bought an RV and spent many years traveling across the country in search of the perfect place to settle. They found it at Silver Lakes RV Resort in Naples, Florida, where Berta treasured time with her twin brother, Robert, and his wife, Emily. When the Florida weather grew too warm, she returned to Galion for her favorite season—Christmas—and to be with some of her favorite people: her grandchildren, Candy (Michael) Gilfilen, Melinda (Brad) Lanker, Tab (Kelly) Carmel, Casey Flaherty, Mackenzie Flaherty, Cullen (Kalynn) Cook, Megan (Jordan) Phillips, Jake Flaherty and Jake (Taylor) Leibengood. She also felt deeply blessed to share her life and love with 14 great-grandchildren, Juliana, Vivian, Emma and William Lanker; Gwendolyn Gilfilen; Audie, Logan and Lux Carmel; Thea, Leo, Louis and Teresa Phillips; Amelia and Link Leibengood.

Berta is survived by her twin brother, Robert; her sister, Beverly; her children; her grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her memory forward.

Her family will celebrate her life and the love she shared in a private ceremony. Berta will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
