William J. Scott, 95, of Lucas, Ohio, passed away on October 7, 2026, at OhioHealth Mansfield, surrounded by his loving family.
William was born on May 20, 1931, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Thomas and Helen (Mitz Smith) Scott. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955.
Upon returning home from his military service, William worked at Westinghouse before beginning a 34-year career with Ohio Edison. He retired in 1991 after many years of dedicated service.
William loved the small town of Lucas and devoted many years to serving his community as a volunteer with the Lucas Fire Department.
An avid outdoorsman, William shared his love of adventure with his sons through many hunting trips to Wyoming and fishing trips to Canada and Kentucky. As his granddaughters came into his life, family adventures evolved into beach trips to Kitty Hawk, creating treasured memories across generations.
William had many personal passions that kept him active throughout his life. He enjoyed competitive rifle and pistol shooting, participating in weekend competitions. He also loved running, logging countless miles along the roads of Lucas as he trained for races and marathons. He cherished peaceful days sailing on his boat just as much as the thrill of riding his motorcycles.
William is survived by his loving partner of 45 years, Kathy Delozier; his three sons, Robert (Chrisanna) Scott of Lucas, Ohio, Michael (Dawn) Scott of Mansfield, Ohio, and Mathew Scott of Mansfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Mindy Sue (Leonard) Brown, Sabrina Scott Hoffman (Aaron Makeever), Nicole (Troy) Wildman, Cynthia Scott, Tiffany (Lenny) McGregor, Tara Scott Dodd, and Timothy (Ashley) Scott; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; his daughter, Susan Gerich; his son, Patrick Scott; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Rose Scott; his sister-in-law, Delores “Dee” Scott; his daughter-in-law, Teresa “Teri” Scott; and his grandson-in-law, Lyle Dodd.
William will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his dedication to his family and community, and his love of the outdoors. From his years of military service and long career to his many adventures and the generations of family he leaves behind, William lived a full life and created countless memories that will be cherished for years to come. His love for Lucas and the people closest to him will remain an enduring part of his legacy.
