MANSFIELD – Mechanics Bank welcomed customers, community members and downtown neighbors on Sept. 23 to celebrate 100 years at its historic Main Office at 2 South Main Street.
The milestone comes as the independent community bank also marks its 140th anniversary of serving the Mansfield area.
“As we celebrate 100 years at our Main Office, and 140 years in business, we are grateful for those who came before us who built this strong foundation and for the customers, employees, shareholders, and community partners who continue to shape our future,” shared Mark Masters, President & CEO.
The celebration looked back to September 1926, when thousands of people attended the public opening of the Mechanics Building & Loan Company’s new home.
Contemporary newspaper coverage described an event that continued from early afternoon until late evening, with elaborate floral displays, 1,200 roses distributed to guests and 2,000 souvenir rulers given away.
Based on those keepsakes alone, attendance was estimated at more than 3,200 people at the opening in 1926.
Designed by Mansfield architects, built by a local contractor and outfitted by Mansfield merchants, the Main Office reflected a local-first approach from the beginning.
A century later, that commitment remains central to Mechanics Bank as the only local, independent bank headquartered in Richland County.
During the event, guests reflected on how the city, downtown Mansfield, banking, and the Main Office have evolved while Mechanics Bank’s commitments to customers, community and independence have remained constant.
The gathering also honored the employees whose dedication has sustained the institution across generations and thanked the customers whose trust has made the milestone possible.
